Anti-wrinkle Injections FAQs
-
Your clinician will advise you on which products are best for your skin during your initial consultation. You may have an idea of the type of anti-wrinkle treatment you’d like, so do let us know – but we will always discuss all the options with you before beginning any work. This way we are able to explain why we feel a certain course of action would give the best results.
-
If our doctors have prescribed a Botulinum Toxin type A injection, we use the brands BOTOX®/Azzalure or Bocouture in our clinic.
-
During a Botulinum Toxin type A treatment, the product is injected into the muscle with a very fine needle. This will be done by a qualified medical practitioner with years of experience. The treatment will consist of a number of these small injections but the process is rapid. Your initial consultation (for new patients) will take around 30 minutes and the injections themselves only about 20 minutes. You’ll be comfortable on one of our specialist treatment chairs throughout, whilst soft music and lighting will help to relax you.
After your treatment, we advise that you don’t drink or exercise excessively for 48 hours and avoid facials or anything that puts extra pressure on the treated area for two weeks. Try to avoid sunbeds, saunas, steam rooms and jacuzzies for 3-4 days and if you’ve received this treatment for underarm sweating, do not use any deodorant for 24 hours.
-
Botulinum Toxin type A injections should not be used in areas where there is an existing infection, and they are not recommended if you are unwell in any way, if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or if you are taking certain medications. Our team will always ensure any treatment is right for you before beginning.
-
It can take between 2 and 10 days to fully notice the results as this drug takes a while to act. Botulinum Toxin type A causes a chemical reaction to occur to block nerve endings and relax muscles and this can take a little time to develop.
As a result, we offer a complimentary review two weeks after your first appointment. This allows us to see the full effect of the anti-wrinkle injections and either make minor adjustments or top up certain areas if needed.
-
Botulinum Toxin type A is not a permanent treatment. Your body will begin repairing the blocked nerves and within 3-4 months the muscle relaxing effect will have worn off. If regular appointments are maintained, however, you may find the effect begins to last a little longer than 4 months.
-
There may be minor bruising and redness at the injection sites but these are temporary and will quickly disappear. If you are prone to bruising you may wish to take arnica tablets the day before treatment and for 5 days after. Arnica cream can also be applied to bruised areas.
Some patients experience mild headaches after treatment. In this case, you can take paracetamol, but NOT aspirin or ibuprofen products as they may exacerbate bruising.
As with all drugs, side effects can be experienced by those with allergies to substances used to preserve the drug but Botulinum Toxin type A injections are as safe as any drug when administered by trained medical professionals and these side effects only occur in around 1 in 5000 people.
-
Each appointment for Botulinum Toxin type A anti-wrinkle injections is followed up by a complimentary top-up appointment 2 weeks later. This allows us to make corrections or adjustments to ensure the best results.
The effects of this type of anti-wrinkle treatment will start to fade within 3-4 months and further appointments should be scheduled if you wish to maintain the impact.
Dermal Fillers FAQs
-
Dermal Fillers are a name for a group of injectable treatments which help to plump up and volumise the skin. They are used to minimise the appearance of lines and wrinkles, sculpt the face and neck or enhance features such as the lips or cheeks.
The brands we use are made from Hyaluronic Acid which also occurs naturally in the skin. Some fillers are permanent but we only use non-permanent fillers, which break down in the body after a period of 6-18 months.

-
The dermal fillers we offer are Juvéderm® and Restylane. These are non-permanent gels that restore or add volume to the face. Both products are hyaluronic acid based, which is already found in the skin and is designed to create a naturally rejuvenated effect. We use these brands because they are pioneers in the market, and we believe they are the safest, always reliable, and longest-lasting.

During treatment with either Juvéderm® or Restylane dermal fillers, the product is injected into the face with a tiny needle. This will be done by a qualified medical practitioner with years of experience.

You’ll be comfortable on one of the specialist treatment chairs throughout, whilst soft music and lighting will help you feel relaxed.
For patients that are nervous, we can also use a numbing cream, or a stress ball and always offer a hand to hold.
-
Dermal fillers should not be used whilst pregnant or breastfeeding. Some major illnesses, allergies, or high sensitivity to medications such as Lidocaine may also make this treatment unsuitable. If you have a tendency to keloidal reactions, or an active skin infection such as spots, cold sores, or ulcers, we would advise against continuing. Our team will always ensure any treatment is right for you before beginning.
-
The impact of dermal fillers can often be seen immediately as the product plumps up and firms the skin. It’s a fairly instant treatment for firming, contouring, volumising, or smoothing wrinkles
-
Juvéderm® and Restylane dermal fillers are non-permanent and resorbable, meaning treatments won’t last forever. How long you will continue to see the effects depends on the type of filler used. In general, you could expect a cross-linked molecule hyaluronic acid filler like this to last between 6 and 18 months.
-
As with any injectable treatment, there is a chance of some minor redness, bruising, and swelling at the injection sites. This should heal within 7 days. More prominent bleeding or bruising may occur if you take anti-coagulant medication such as aspirin or ibuprofen. Some supplements such as St. John’s Wort, Omega 3 fatty acids, Vitamin E, Ginkgo Biloba, and Ginseng can also increase these side effects.
It’s also sensible to mention a recent dermal filler treatment before undergoing any laser, chemical peel, or other dermal process as this may cause an inflammatory response.
-
Dermal fillers are one-off treatments that have an instant effect but this will start to fade within 6-18 months.
Further appointments can then be scheduled if you wish to maintain the impact.
